Texas hold’em seems to be the most favored of all online poker games. This game is the most simple of all poker variations and this is the reason why most beginners will be advised to start with Texas Hold’em. However, while it is true that the rules of this game are fairly simple, it does take years of playing the game to master it. This is why both beginners and experts seem to love Texas Hold’em poker and this may also be the reason why it is so popular on the net too.

Below is a simplified look at how the game of Texas Hold’em poker is played.

The first round begins with all the players being dealt two cards face downwards. The players can only see the cards that are dealt to them. After the deal, betting begins. Depending on the cards in hand, a player may decide to bet, raise, call or even quit the game all together.

Once the betting of the first round is over, the dealer will deal three cards that are face up for all to see. These cards are known as shared cards. The idea of the game is to use the shared cards and the personal ones to create the strongest hand on the table. A round of betting will follow this deal. This routine will continue till there are 5 cards on the center of the table that face up and are shared by the entire table. This will be followed by the final round of betting and then players will show their hands. The one with the strongest hand will take the money and the next deal will begin.

The betting starts from the person sitting next to the dealer. So it is always better to be in the last betting position. This gives you an edge over the others since you can see who all have moved and therefore judge the hands that the other players may have.

There are many fine points of the game too that will take some time to master. It will help to learn to understand the ‘tells’ in this game. This helps judge the hand of the opponent. There are rules that allow you to split the pot too in case you clash with someone who may have an equally strong hand as yours.

There are many aspects of Texas Hold’em poker. Learning the game is comparatively less simple than other variations of poker. However, if looking to master it, be prepared to put in a lot of time and effort into the game. Read up on books written by the experts and get as much practice as you can. It will help to play the lower stakes of online poker games when looking to get some practice to better you game.
